Home decor aficionados are predicting that the popularity of tile will skyrocket in 2016, as more people discover the timeless appeal of tile for home interiors.

Here are some predictions for what will be big in tile in 2016:

  • Mosaic Glass Tiles – provide shine and a bling effect; accents of glass and metallic mosaic tiles are predicted to be huge in the coming year.

  • Black Tile – this is a huge emerging trend, particularly for bathrooms and kitchen accents. Black tile needs to be balanced with other lighter tones as opposed to earthy tones, and the tile should be either natural stone or shiny; don’t use a matte ceramic tile as it will look flat. Black tiles also need white grout to look their best.

  • Texture – in all areas of the home, it will all be about texture and this extends to tile. This effect can be achieved in a beautiful yet understated way with mosaic stone tiles.

  • Subway Tiles – these rectangular tiles bring a retro feel to a bathroom or kitchen backsplash, and they have been gaining popularity in recent years. Choose between basic white or colored tiles for a unique and personalized effect.

  • Natural Stone Tiles – are the epitome of timelessness and classic style. They can create an atmosphere that is either contemporary or traditional, and with the right care they just keep looking better with age. From marble to travertine and even pebblestone, you can’t go wrong with natural tile.

  • Brick and Chevron Designs – there is a vast array of tile shapes from which to choose, and designs mimicking brick walls are set to be big next year. So too will be the well established chevron pattern.

  • Geometric Patterns – for wall features, floors, backsplashes and even countertops, geometric patterns that affect fluidity, geometric designs will feature prominently in 2016.

  • Sandblasted Marble – and other softening effects bring warmth to tile and enhance what otherwise would be a very minimalist aesthetic.
